Fix bug #451596 - Mark ext4 as recommended fs
Fix bug #441706 - Consistent usage of path
Fix bug #334167 - Add in ext4 support, now for ppc/ppc64
Part of bug #437338 - Remove acronym YMMV and use a better known sentence (in this case, "your results may vary")
Enhancing information on downsides wrt multiple partitions. This hopefully also clears up some of the confusion that is surrounding separate /usr partitions. Yes, it now mentions that an initramfs might be needed in that case. And no, we do not "recommend" a separate /usr partition, nor do we "not recommend" it.
fix PPC abstracts
Update the PPC handbook for the autobuilds. Major version bump for this release. Fixes bug 260403, bug 292726, and bug 234310.
As announced on the list (http://archives.gentoo.org/gentoo-doc/msg_e721be404c6a5ae8ce5c5bf02f45381c.xml), assume all arches are using the libata framework, so sd* everywhere. includes updating block device and partition descriptions. also added a new included file for boot config (starting sshd, hdparm, etc). synced up several wayward files, including sparc. also changed/dropped usage of some now useless keys, since everyone's using sd*. lots of intensive, invasive changes. and i never even used sed once.
release time. note that since this is beta1, the release dir and stage/media names have been adjusted accordingly. also, the handbooks are marked with a disclaimer=draft, so once the final is out, that will be removed and the release names adjusted. in the mean time, these are live. the beta is officially released. no, it's not april fools, but it is april 1st. :)
made Open Firmware usage consistent for all handbooks and translations, as suggested by grahl and rane on IRC, and approved by JoseJX. s/openfirmware/Open Firmware/g, so no revbump.
added impo for reiserfs default block sizes and yaboot, bug 183239
fixing tree type confusion. spank whoever told me to add that ext3 stuff in the first place, and me for blindly adding it. all fixed now; also fixed reiserfs, since it's actually B+, not B*
typo fix, no content change, thanks to cla for spotting
fixed pegasos duplication in the PReP section, thanks to cla for spotting on IRC, and dostrow for info on PReP stuff.
typo fix, no content change
fixed coding style, no revbump. thanks to cla for reporting. smack josejx.
2007.0 release is here; final changes and new docs
Reworded reiserfs and ext3 descriptions for bug 153518
2006.1 networked docs are in. portage handbook still untouched per separate bugs. thanks to all the hard work, guys. blame me if something is wrong (and please fix quickly) :)
Added note that MacOS is MacOS 9 or earlier. Added example for boot arguments. Added note about OldWorld partitioning.
Handbook for 2006.0, "Chuck Norris can divide by zero"
add missing ) from not applicable, no content change
#103723 warning about mount -t ext3 not required anymore
Migrating to 2005.1
#101034 - Adding "-O dir_index" information to the guide Leaving it out of the real example mke2fs command to "stage" it. When we know more about this b-tree stability and architectural support we can follow the SPARC handbook and use it by default.
#92450 - Add in information about the size of the Portage tree
Updating docos to 2005.0
#82559 - People got confused about the sentence :/
Separation of Gentoo Handbook into Current and 2004.3
changed some things to the ppc docs
changes to the handbook
Converted dates to YYYY-MM-DD format
Moving 2004.3 documentation
Coding Style
Adding version/date information in pages
bug 69006
changes partition map
resolved bug 65999
#63752 - Add "and SATA" to the 15-partition limit warning
#61651 - Tell the user that there is a 15-partition limit for SCSI
Cleanup, removed - kernel 2.6 comments in code samples because it's now the only choice (2.4 has just been removed) - traces of JFS because it is not supported on PPC (HB says so)
Changes that has been known since the (inofficial) 2004.2 ppc-LiveCD has been released. Mostly it's kernel-2.4 stuff that has been deleted. And some updates about the Pegasos support.
#50289 - Move mounting of /proc right before the chrooting. This also takes care of the errors users receive while unpacking the stage tarballs. Apparently logics is something the crowd wants less
Move over files from the draft/ directory. 2004.2 is released :)
#57937: removed occurrences of xfs-sources, gaming-sources and [*] /dev/pts
#57267: performant is not proper English
Update on Pegasos installation instructions thanks to David Holm (dholm@gentoo.org)
add comma to make it less confusing
2004.1 release. Moving docs from draft/ to correct space. Hopefully this goes without any issues *crosses fingers*
Fixed inconsistent partitioning scheme.
Clearified the instructions about the bootstrap-partition. There were many users who still not understood that boot-strap != /boot. Furthermore we need to bind-mount /dev into the chroot, so that yabootconfig works. See bug #44924.
fix swap error -- should be hda4 not hda2
Added missing id="fdisk" attributes
#42823 - Separate architecture specific instructions in separate handbooks
