Fix bug #463469 - Mention that built-in file system support is only needed for root file system
Fix bug #463475 - Add in devtmpfs in kernel configuration (remainder of architectures)
Fix bug #460852 - Move timezone information to the "Installing the Gentoo Base System" chapter
Part of bug #437338 - Do not set the dump (5th) field in fstab to 1, it might confuse users and isnt used anyway
Fix bug #405271 (thanks to Ogelpre) to update /etc/timezone wherever we say to update /etc/localtime as it is /etc/timezone that is the master, read by timezone-data to update localtime
Bug #372427 - Remove EVMS from documentation as it is not supported anymore
Bug #378973 - No need to use LiveDVD kernel configuration, might not even work properly. Genkernel provides a sane start
Fix bug #375757 - Use initramfs abbreviation, not initrd
#369841, initrd is in initial RAM disk, not a root disk Thanks to swift for a patch.
update genkernel locations, punt special pegasos genkernel info that doesn't seem to apply anymore. there's nothing pegasos-specific shipped with genkernel these days. bug 336010.
remove warning and related kernel config for special preemption code. josejx says it's working okay on PPC.
fix PPC abstracts
Update the PPC handbook for the autobuilds. Major version bump for this release. Fixes bug 260403, bug 292726, and bug 234310.
Some coding style changes (trailing whitespace, no tabs)
#232771 - Use kernel-name parameters, patch by jer@gentoo.org and verified
release time. note that since this is beta1, the release dir and stage/media names have been adjusted accordingly. also, the handbooks are marked with a disclaimer=draft, so once the final is out, that will be removed and the release names adjusted. in the mean time, these are live. the beta is officially released. no, it's not april fools, but it is april 1st. :)
Name of first menu item changed in make menuconfig
looks like modprobe -l will only work for the running kernel, not for the kernel just compiled. fixed in all handbooks, bug 188250
use a simple modprobe -l command, bug 187000
made Open Firmware usage consistent for all handbooks and translations, as suggested by grahl and rane on IRC, and approved by JoseJX. s/openfirmware/Open Firmware/g, so no revbump.
Fixed some kernel options.
seems the previous fix was made a little too quickly? reverting previous change.
for safety's sake, needed to move the conf.d/clock TIMEZONE edit to immediately before compiling a kernel. users still run into the warning message if it's left at the end, before rebooting. fixes http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-560322.html and other reports.
fixed a typo, thx to kucrut
#178179 cp timezone file to /etc/localtime to prevent warning until next emerge of sys-libs/timezone-data
2007.0 release is here; final changes and new docs
Remove all references to coldplug, bug 170679
removed USE=symlink by request of dsd as part of the USE flag removal from all kernel sources, bug 167703. also further vanilla-sources removals as it's unsupported.
added udev/coldplug blurb to the networked handbooks (no point if on networkless, as they have old portage snapshots) for bug 157346
Added note about removing /boot from fstab so that genkernel works.
Fixed defconfig->pmac32_defconfig in the handbook.
2006.1 networked docs are in. portage handbook still untouched per separate bugs. thanks to all the hard work, guys. blame me if something is wrong (and please fix quickly) :)
#132127, removed instructions about turning on Support for hot-pluggable devices, it's on by default since 2.6.16
Fixed defconfig for 2.6.16 and newer kernels.
Handbook for 2006.0, "Chuck Norris can divide by zero"
#118031 hb-install-*-kernel.xml files need TLC
#112802 USE="-doc" when emerging kernel sources to avoid dependencies (until the USE flags are described later in the handbook) #110596 (PPC only) Add make defconfig before make menuconfig #110038 cp time zone file instead of symlinking to it
#103041 Warn users against Etc/GMT* timezones
Fix location of genkernels initramfs file. Reported on the forums, not caught by release checking
Migrating to 2005.1
Added framebuffer section to kernel configuration.
Reverting stupid accidental commit, sorry YosWink.
Fixed typos for bug #100724.
Installing hotplug after coldplug is useless as it is a dependency; would only delay the installation
#97662 - Adding hotplug to boot runlevel is not needed anymore
#90393, CONFIG_HOTPLUG needed for udev. Thanks dsd.
Fix stupid typo
#90367 - Apply lspci fix to other architectures as well
Bumped the version
Fixes bug #92084.
modules-update is only needed for changes in /etc/modules.d/* which we do not do. Changes in /etc/modules.autoload.d are automatically taken into account by /etc/init.d/modules. Thanks for Terry Colligan for reporting
Added genkernel specifics.
Okay, got reply, kernel-config-2.6 is sources by genkernel regardless
Comment out zcat of kernel config for PPC. Dams doesnt think we need to specifically zcat the installcd config anywhere and the used location (kernel-2.6) is completely wrong anyway
Updating docos to 2005.0
adjusting made change for stage3 only
added changed for the login problem on ppc
Separation of Gentoo Handbook into Current and 2004.3
changed some things to the ppc docs
Converted dates to YYYY-MM-DD format
Moving 2004.3 documentation
Adding version/date information in pages
Two small fixes from John Richards.
#62186: Fixed language mistakes all over the place thanks to John Richards
#61645 - No modules for PPC anymore
Cleanup, removed - kernel 2.6 comments in code samples because it's now the only choice (2.4 has just been removed) - traces of JFS because it is not supported on PPC (HB says so)
Changes that has been known since the (inofficial) 2004.2 ppc-LiveCD has been released. Mostly it's kernel-2.4 stuff that has been deleted. And some updates about the Pegasos support.
Move over files from the draft/ directory. 2004.2 is released :)
#57937: removed occurrences of xfs-sources, gaming-sources and [*] /dev/pts
#56065: make kernel options easier to find in 2.4 & 2.6 kernels
#49831 - Use relative links for kernel source; some ebuilds break otherwise
2004.1 release. Moving docs from draft/ to correct space. Hopefully this goes without any issues *crosses fingers*
#42823 - Separate architecture specific instructions in separate handbooks
