Fix bug #511722 - Kernel installation with "make install"
Add link to kernel configuration guide on the wiki as per suggestion on #gentoo-doc by micsha
Fix bug #497134 - Correct naming convention for kernel
Bug 489782 - Switch links to wiki documents
Fix bug #485370 - genkernel uses --lvm, not --lvm2
Fix bug #463469 - Mention that built-in file system support is only needed for root file system
Fix bug #460852 - Move timezone information to the "Installing the Gentoo Base System" chapter
update EFI partition location, bug #431556
update handbooks for initramfs changes needed for separate /usr and other partitions. bug #415175, bug #434550, bug #434554, bug #434732
CONFIG_DEVTMPFS is also needed but not mentioned in handbook yet. Introducing for x86 and amd64... other arches should check if the requirement is for them valid as well and update accordingly
Fix bug #408691 - Update instructions with initramfs information, bug #406961 - update kernel configuration entries
Fix bug #405271 (thanks to Ogelpre) to update /etc/timezone wherever we say to update /etc/localtime as it is /etc/timezone that is the master, read by timezone-data to update localtime
Remove duplicate kernel configuration as per bug #388299. Thanks to Tupone Alfredo for reporting it
typo fix, reported by nimiux via email. no content change.
Fix bug #383523 - Kernel configuration should mention EGI GUID Partition support. Thanks to Justin "yoosty" for reporting
Bug #372427 - Remove EVMS from documentation as it is not supported anymore
Bug #378973 - No need to use LiveDVD kernel configuration, might not even work properly. Genkernel provides a sane start
Fix bug #372077 - Update kernel configuration for x86/x86_64 architectures. Thanks to nimiux for the patch
Removing trailing spaces (no content change)
Fix bug #375757 - Use initramfs abbreviation, not initrd
#369841, initrd is in initial RAM disk, not a root disk Thanks to swift for a patch.
fix broken amd64 faq link, reported by nimiux on IRC
typo, no content change
add note on ia32 emulation support for multilib systems to prevent more user pebkac issues, and so that they have the references to the other non-multilib docs right up front (in addition to their locations elsewhere in the handbooks and FAQ). bug 326691.
fix the handbook for bug 323381: update -march=nocona to core2, update MCE description in the kernel config, and add the new processor type for intel atom.
use smarter conditionals to reduce some duplication. thanks to chiguire for the suggestion on bug 273354
should be kernel-config, not kernel-config-2.6
updated genkernel info for amd64, bug 286929
Quick fixes for autobuilds and all stuff (i think) found on the autobuilds tracker bug -- x86 and amd64 only at this time. should be good for Gentoo's 10th anniversary on these two arches
update MCE kernel config, bug 279683. also updated Processor Family config for new options.
updated USB HID config location. this update covers the handbooks and the USB guide. for the latter, i removed the section on kernel 2.4 configuration, as there are no 2.4 kernels supported by gentoo.
removed some old duplicated conditional body cruft
added note to x86 handbook on HIMEM64G support, http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=220058#c14
removed option no longer present in current kernels, bug 197814
release time. note that since this is beta1, the release dir and stage/media names have been adjusted accordingly. also, the handbooks are marked with a disclaimer=draft, so once the final is out, that will be removed and the release names adjusted. in the mean time, these are live. the beta is officially released. no, it's not april fools, but it is april 1st. :)
HID kernel option was moved to a different submenu in menuconfig, #205567
Name of first menu item changed in make menuconfig
added ia32 emulation to kernel config, bug 196914
#194071 gentoo-sources is about extra features, not extra performance
looks like modprobe -l will only work for the running kernel, not for the kernel just compiled. fixed in all handbooks, bug 188250
2.6 kernels use .ko; 2.4 kernels (which are unsupported) use .o; fixed for all handbooks. no revbump either as it's basically a typo fix at this point.
use a simple modprobe -l command, bug 187000
No "Use PCI DMA by default" anymore (bug #186514)
seems the previous fix was made a little too quickly? reverting previous change.
for safety's sake, needed to move the conf.d/clock TIMEZONE edit to immediately before compiling a kernel. users still run into the warning message if it's left at the end, before rebooting. fixes http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-560322.html and other reports.
#178179 cp timezone file to /etc/localtime to prevent warning until next emerge of sys-libs/timezone-data
2007.0 release is here; final changes and new docs
Remove all references to coldplug, bug 170679
removed USE=symlink by request of dsd as part of the USE flag removal from all kernel sources, bug 167703. also further vanilla-sources removals as it's unsupported.
added udev/coldplug blurb to the networked handbooks (no point if on networkless, as they have old portage snapshots) for bug 157346
Moved chapter abstracts into shared chapters No content change, hence no bump
2006.1 networked docs are in. portage handbook still untouched per separate bugs. thanks to all the hard work, guys. blame me if something is wrong (and please fix quickly) :)
Revert changes
removing a useless link leading to a section just below it
Merged x86 & amd64
